When World War II veterans Earl Birdy and Andy Yatsko get together on the last Thursday of each month at the Thompson Run Athletic Association on Ball Avenue in West Mifflin for their Veterans of Foreign Wars meetings, they are keeping up a long tradition of being at the same place at the same time.

The 160 members of Monongahela Valley (MVH) Hospital’s leadership team were pleasantly surprised when former Pittsburgh Steeler Robin Cole was the guest speaker at their recent Leadership Development session.

In July 2014, Matthew Pastorik, 33, of South Park, was diagnosed with a glioblastoma, a life-threatening brain tumor. Husband of Janell and father of two kids, ages 4 and 6, he began chemo and radiation shortly after diagnosis.

The Peters Creek Historical Society will host its annual ‘Soup and Stroll’ Open House on Sunday, December 6 from noon to 5 p.m. at the Wright House, 815 Venetia Road, Venetia.
