The Fall Bible Study series will begin on Friday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. The six-week study will examine the teaching of God's word on "Success: What does it mean to be successful?" The series will include study on Success as Power, Success as Wealth, Success as Status, Success as Happiness, Success as Self-fulfillment, and Success as Service. A group of young adults from across the South Hills area had an important job this summer. This group of men helped the maintenance crew of Blessed Trinity Catholic Parish with manual labor, various construction projects and general upkeep of the parish grounds – which includes St. Albert the Great Church in Baldwin and St. Sylvester Church in Brentwood. St. Wendelin and St. Basil in Pittsburgh’s Carrick neighborhood are also part of Blessed Trinity Parish. The maintenance crew of the parish includes Jeff Jenney, Len Lis, Gene Werner and Phil Siar.

During a time when families are struggling, volunteers from Calvary Chapel South Pittsburgh (CCSP) Church in West Elizabeth has stepped up to help them with the ‘Blessing Warehouse’. They have collected basic care items including clothes, shoes, coats/jackets, and blankets, along with select furniture and much-needed houseware items. They are then given to families who are in search of necessities. Whether they are seeking clothes, a dresser, a few kitchen items, or if they are victims of flooding or a housefire and have lost everything, no family is turned away. There is no application process or income requirement to be eligible for assistance.

Bishop David Bonnar came home earlier this summer. The South Hills native, and former priest of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, was named bishop of the Diocese of Youngstown, Ohio, in the fall of 2020. Last month, Bonnar celebrated a homecoming Mass at his former parish -- a place that truly formed his life's mission.

Some might imagine a liberal arts major who studied history and religion. Others might think about a psychology major who spent time as a social worker. Chances are, though, that people may not think about individuals who majored in business and worked in the corporate world before feeling their call.
