State Rep. Peter J. Daley II, D-Fayette/Washington, today touted the work of Pennsylvania Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) as he accepted its 'Champion of Small Business' award.

“I’m honored to receive the award again, but the proven and fiscally responsible programs provided by Small Business Development Centers are the real story,” said Daley, whose 34 years of service in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives concluded on November 30. “Small businesses create most of the jobs in our economy and the SBDCs are a great resource to grow them and promote prosperity.”

Begun in 1980, Pennsylvania’s SBDC network, which includes outreach offices in Washington and Greene counties, provides no-fee confidential business consulting, educational programming and timely, useful information for people starting, growing or maintaining a business.

“The SBDC is the linchpin for the continued economic evolution of the Mon Valley and all of western Pennsylvania,” Daley said. “I am proud to have supported the centers in budget battles, public hearings and in various committee assignments because every dollar invested in the SBDC is returned many times over.”

Christian Conroy, state director of SBDC Pennsylvania, said Daley was selected for the 'Champion of Small Business' award because he has been a vocal and effective champion of the program for many years.

“He’s been a steadfast supporter and promoter of the SBDC,” said Conroy, who was visiting the University of Pittsburgh SBDC during its Planning for Profits seminar graduation that included 24 local business owners. “We are going to miss his counsel and advocacy, but his efforts on our behalf will continue providing dividends for many years to come.”
