Business & Merchant

By Krista Ramsey

The day the sign went up, “SHOP ‘n SAVE Coming Feb. 2,” there was a quiet hush over the land. Word begin to spread, and the residents of Pleasant Hills and Jefferson Hills gathered round the parking lot and joined hands in song. Well, not exactly, but you’d never guess that the opening of a grocery store could generate so much joy and excitement throughout a community.

SHOP ‘n SAVE Area Sales Director; Shannon Faulhaber; Rockie Mell, Account Manager, SHOP ‘n SAVE Marketing; Natalie Bello; Joe Bello; and Deenie and Jeff Ross, Pleasant Hills SHOP ‘n SAVE storeowners, gathered to celebrate the store’s grand opening on February 2.

Area residents had been living without a local grocery store for quite some time and welcomed the store and its new owner Jeff Ross with open arms. “I have been in this business since 1973, and I have never experienced a welcome like we received at this store,” said new owner Jeff Ross. “The community really embraced us, and we are so excited to provide a grocery offering everyday low prices, a great selection of in-demand products, and top-notch customer service.”

The grand opening went off without a hitch, and shoppers filled the store all day to check out the goods, thrilled to have close-by access to fresh produce and seafood, a bakery, an on-site butcher, and hot food options. In addition, a full-service deli serves Kretschmar, Boar’s Head, other popular brands, and favorites like Isaly’s chipped ham and Land O’ Lakes cheese. One hundred customers received reusable canvas bags filled with free groceries. Employing around 45 workers, the Pleasant Hills location has an ATM, bill paying, money grams, and money orders. A lottery counter, Coinstar, and Red Box Video will be available soon.

This marks the Ross family’s eighth independently owned and operated SHOP ‘n SAVE. Ross also owns the SHOP ‘n SAVE stores in McKeesport, Mt. Pleasant, Versailles, Connellsville, North Huntingdon, Pittsburgh, and West Mifflin. He enjoys the environment of these community-based stores. “I have the unique opportunity to really get to know my customers,” said Ross. “We’re looking forward to becoming a part of the fabric of this community. As an independent retailer, I am personally vested in each of my stores. It is my goal to offer quality and convenience to the residents of Pleasant Hills, who so richly deserve it.”

The store is located at 649 Old Clairton Road, Pleasant Hills, and is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Customers will receive double coupons and, as always, everyday low prices. Participation in the SHOP ‘n SAVE Perks Card program will also provide opportunities for special discounts as well as Pump Perks redeemable at more than 130 participating Sunoco gas locations, including a location only three miles away from the new store.
