Local businesses contributed $54,750 to The Challenge Program, Inc. to support the program’s efforts to motivate and reward students during the 2016-2017 program year in Washington County high schools.

Washington County Challenge Members

Through The Challenge Program, Inc., sophomores, juniors and seniors are introduced to careers in their own communities and challenged to compete in five award categories that are directly linked with academic and workforce success: Attendance; STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math); Academic Improvement; Academic Excellence and Community Service. Additionally, businesses engaged these students in various work related activities such as facility tours, job-shadowing.

Participating Washington County businesses and their partnered schools are: Range Resources (Avella, Bentworth, Burgettstown, Chartiers-Houston High School, Western Area CTC and Fort Cherry High School); Auma Actuators (Canon-McMillan High School); Progeny Systems (Charleroi and Belle Vernon High Schools); MarkWest (Chartiers-Houston High School and Fort Cherry High School); Noble Energy (Ringgold High School); Dynamet Incorporated (Washington High School); Wesbanco (Trinity High School); Alex E. Paris Contracting (Avella High School).
