The Charleroi Design Committee, operating in conjunction with the Mon Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce (MVRCC), is now administering a Façade Improvement Project IV to assist business and property owners in Charleroi’s central business district in improving the appearance of the fronts of commercial buildings.

Property owners Eric and Casey Clark used the Chamber’s façade improvement program to make improvements at Perked Up Café, 530 McKean Avenue in Charleroi.

The funding for the program was secured through the Washington County Local Share Account from gaming revenues.

Grants are made on a matching basis with a maximum grant amount of $5,000 per property. Minimum grant is $1,000 per property, and there must be at least a $2,000 investment. Grants are allocated on a reimbursement basis only. “We are so pleased to be able to give out grants in phase IV of our funding,” said Deb Keefer, Chamber Director. “Now is the time to get contractor’s estimates and apply,” she added.

Eligible grant activities must be reviewed and approved by the design committee and applicants must show proof of payment to their contractors and suppliers to be reimbursed under the grant guidelines. To date, the Chamber has given out $154,000 in grants for total project improvements of approximately $335,000 in the central business district of Charleroi.
