Paint Me Pretty Gives Used Furniture a Makeover

By Kyra Bergman

Paint Me Pretty is a unique shop owned by Gaylene Walker and specializes in refurbished furniture. Their new location opened in mid September at 6187 Route 88 in Finleyville, directly across the street from the Dairy Queen.

“I find pieces of furniture that are no longer wanted or are in extremely poor shape, and I fix them and turn them into something people can use all over again,” says Walker. She has turned her new shop on Route 88 in Finleyville into a show room for items of furniture she has lovingly restored and turned into unique pieces of art.

As an artist, with a degree from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Gaylene began with the more conventional route of painting on canvas and doing murals on walls. Then one day her daughter suggested she paint some furniture for her granddaughter’s playroom and she found her passion. “I go out and treasure hunt,” explains Walker. “Every little piece has its own little story to tell.” “I want people to feel like they are getting something nobody else has.”

In addition to her own work, Gaylene also carries products from local vendors such as Louie Prior upcycled jewelry, Victoria’s Fudge-a-Licious homemade chocolate and candies, Swope’s Berries & Bees honey products, Rutz all natural cleaning supplies, the Original Bees Wax Furniture Polish, and works of art by RKS Photography. She also sells the products she uses for restoring furniture and offers paint classes. And for animal lovers she sells t-shirts and greeting cards with all proceeds benefiting Angel Ridge Animal Rescue and Fix Your Cat.

Stop by her shop located on Route 88 in Finleyville and talk to Gaylene about purchasing something she has already completed or having some custom work done on a piece of your own. Paint Me Pretty can be reached by phone at 724-348-6100, or you can visit their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/paintmepretty15317/
