They are a private, non-profit 501(C)3 that has been providing supported employment services to individuals with disabilities for 34 years. Transitional Employment Consultants’ (TEC) mission is to assist individuals with disabilities to become independent, productive members of the community by providing job readiness training and placement into competitive employment.

TEC was established in 1984 with a grant secured by the Mental Health Association of Washington County. This was a collaborative effort involving the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation Washington District Office (OVR), the Washington/Greene Counties Mental Health/Mental Retardation Program (MH/MR), the Mental Health Association of Washington County, and the University of Pittsburgh to provide supported employment services for consumers of mental health.

TEC’s ultimate goal for all individuals who receive services is to secure and maintain employment in the community. The agency’s employment placement rate has historically hovered at 60%, with 80% of those who secure jobs keeping their jobs for over ninety days.

Geographically TEC expanded its adult supported employment services to include the Monongahela Valley Office in 2004 and in Fayette County with an office in Uniontown in 2006. These geographic expansions were based upon the expressed need for additional supported employment services in these areas by OVR and county
