Business & Merchant

By Jill Brown

Broad Avenue store owners and dealers worked extra hard to prepare for 'Autumn on the Avenue,' on Saturday, September 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Shoppers enjoyed the effort and bargains.

Vintage & Vines, a quality antique store, participated in 'Autumn on the Avenue.' Pictured are (front, l-r): Jean Ann Gallo, owner, and dealers Nadine Gantner and Laura Kubovcik , (middle, l-r): dealers Diane Kuskie, Judy Miller, and Pam Belczyk , and (last row) Charles Miller and Ed Kuskie.

Ten blocks of businesses were included in the sales, specials, and fall offerings. "Miss Autumn" and her "Pixie" were making their way to the businesses with entry forms, prizes, promotions, and cheery fall greetings.

Janice Stitchick, owner of Antiques on Broad, 921 Broad Ave., reported that many were there to celebrate their one-year anniversary Customer Appreciation Day with refreshments, sales, and a chance to win a $50 gift certificate in the shop, voted a Valley favorite. She says they probably had between 400 and 500 customers this day.

Other businesses found creative ways to promote themselves. Broad Avenue Motors held a flea market. Darla Suz, a vintage high-end clothing store, 621 Broad Ave., featured summer specials and new fall arrivals.Hungry shoppers could stop at the nearby Gyros by George. Many businesses, farmers' markets, and taverns participated in the fall event.

Save the date for the next big Broad Avenue event, 'Christmas on the Avenue' on November 28, 29, and 30. For more information, contact the Greater Rostraver Chamber of Commerce at 724-929-3329.
