Health

For the third consecutive year, Monongahela Valley Hospital earned 5 stars for its performance in the treatment of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) from Healthgrades.

As a leading online resource, Healthgrades helps consumers make informed decisions to find the right doctor and the right hospital for the right care. This achievement is part of new findings and data released by Healthgrades and is featured in the Healthgrades 2017 Report to the Nation. Every year,Healthgrades evaluates hospital performance at nearly 4,500 hospitals nationwide for 34 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions.*

COPD affects an estimated 30 million individuals in the U.S., and over half of them have symptoms of COPD and do not know it. Early screening can identify COPD before major loss of lung function occurs .For many years, Monongahela Valley Hospital has had programs in place to provide education, early detection and therapies for people with COPD.

“We continually strengthen our commitment to provide high quality medical care to people with COPD,” said Louis J. Panza, MVH’s president and CEO. “This past spring MVH introduced the Community Care Network which emphasizes early detection and in-home monitoring to help keep people out of the hospital.”

Evan Marks, Chief Strategy Officer, Healthgrades, said, “In an environment where consumers have more choices about where to receive their care, a hospital’s commitment to achieving a superior degree of quality for their patients is more important than ever.”
