Washington Health System (WHS) received 1,950 doses of the Pfizer vaccine on Monday, December 21, 2020, delivered via UPS.  They began administering the vaccine on Tuesday, December 22 at 7am to their physicians, nurses and other patient facing staff members such as housekeeping, nutritional services, maintenance and more. In the coming weeks, WHS will administer the vaccine to any staff member that would like to receive one. It is voluntary.

The first staff member to receive the Vaccine at WHS was Joseph “J.T.” Sciascia MBA, BBA, BSN, RN. He is the Nurse Manager of the WHS Washington Hospital Emergency Department. Sciascia said he is feeling great with no side effects at this time.

“It is an honor to be a small part of history and experience the advances of modern medicine first hand,” said Sciascia. “The Washington Health System prides itself in providing safe patient care, and this was one way we could demonstrate this to our community.”
