Experts from noted medical centers in Ohio, Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania will discuss "Advances in Infectious Diseases" during the 25th Annual Medical Staff Symposium on Wednesday, October 15 from 7:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. at Monongahela Valley Hospital's Anthony M. Lombardi Education and Conference Center.

The registration deadline is Friday, October 3.

 

This annual medical education event is designed as an update for physicians, nurses and other health care professionals in the prevention, diagnosis and management of infectious diseases. Its goal is to improve patient outcomes.

Physicians can earn a maximum of 5.0 American Medical Association Physician's Recognition Award (AMA PRA) Category 1 Credits™ and MVH will provide five continuing education credits for nurses.

Upon completion of the program, participants should be able to:

Identify new and cutting-edge management strategies for Hepatitis CDiscuss the physician's role in the prevention and treatment of surgical site infectionsDiscuss the physician's role in appropriate antibiotic usage and prevention of antibiotic resistanceDescribe challenges in following national protocols for diagnosis and management of sepsisIdentify techniques to enhance communication among physicians and the health care team

Speakers include physicians from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore; Inova Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax; Cleveland Clinic's Department of Pulmonary, Allergy and Critical Care Medicine; and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

"This year is special for us. We've been hosting this event at MVH for 25 years now to update doctors and nurses in the region on important medical issues," said Rheumatologist Ajay K. Mathur, M.D., who coordinates the event at MVH.

The registration fee of $25 includes a continental breakfast and lunch. MVH physicians and nurses may attend at no cost. For more information, call 724-258-1145.
