The American Cancer Society recommends that women age 40 and older have an annual mammogram and continue to do so as long as they are in good health. Early detection of breast cancer through mammography helps to save lives. HealthPLEX Imaging is now making it even more convenient for women to get their annual screening mammograms by offering women the opportunity to walk in every Monday without an appointment and without a prescription.
A screening mammogram can identify breast cancer when it is too small to be felt by a self- examination. This type of mammogram usually takes two X-ray views of each breast from the top to bottom and side to side. For approximately 6 to 8 percent of the people who have screening mammograms, abnormalities are found.
“This new service is ideal for women who do not see a physician regularly and may never have had a screening mammogram,” said Mary Ann Konsugar, manager of HealthPLEX Imaging. “Also, our compassionate female technologists know that women can be anxious about the screening and they take the time to help make each woman’s mammogram a comfortable experience.”
