Library News

Monessen Public Library & Cultural Center, in cooperation with the Monessen Elementary Center teachers, will celebrate Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22 with a special ‘read-in’ at the library.

Teachers will read stories to groups of children. There will be crafts and seed-planting activities by the participants. Other activities will stress ecology, recycling, and how to care for our planet. Children will be eligible to enter a drawing for a chance to be featured as the model in special “Read” posters, which will be produced and hung in the library as part of its promotional efforts. In other news:

  • National Library Week will be celebrated April 12-18 with the theme of “unlimited possibilities at your library.”
  • The annual library book sale will be featured with tables of gently used volumes.
  • The Board of Trustees will now circulate DVDs for a period of one week. The fee will be fifty cents.
  • Anyone interested in sponsoring a magazine subscription should see Library Director Dave Zilka. A limited amount of titles are still available.

Storytime

All Storytime sessions are on Mondays at 6 p.m. and geared for preschoolers. The programs consist of a story and an age-appropriate craft. They are held in the upstairs Children's Room. There is an elevator available for those who need it. Spring Storytimes will be held on:

The theme for the upcoming 2015 Summer Reading Program will be: “Every Hero Has a Story.” It will kick off in the month of June.

Local Author Book Signing
