2nd Annual Spring Plant Sale Fundraiser April 1 – May 1 - Flower Pick-up Saturday, May 16

Humor & Health – Laugh Your Way to Feeling Good – Wednesday, April 1 at 1 p.m.

A representative from the Southwestern Nursing Care Center will lead us on a humor-filled afternoon. Registration required.

Family Block Party – Wednesday, April 1 at 6:30 p.m.

Your children can construct, apply mathematical, social, and fine motor skills and have the opportunity for dramatic and imaginative play. Registration required.

Tales for 2s and 3s – Thursday, April 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 at 10:30 a.m.

A storytime specifically geared for toddlers who are 24-36 months old with a caregiver. No registration required.

Beginner Tai Chi – Monday, April 6, 13, 20, and 27 at 9 a.m.

Please join instructor Gurney Bolster for intermediate Tai Chi. Cost: $64 for 8 weeks (payable to Gurney at first class). Registration required.

Continuing Tai Chi – Monday, April 6, 13, 20, and 27 at 10:15 a.m.

Please join instructor Gurney Bolster for intermediate Tai Chi. Registration required. Cost: $80 for 10 weeks (payable to Gurney at the first class).

Make and Take Mondays – Monday, April 6, 13, 20, and 27 at 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Come to the library for a quick but fun make-and-take craft each week, then play at the library and check out books! Geared to ages 2-5, but all ages are welcome! No registration required.

No School Mystery Mondays – Monday, April 6 at 12:30 p.m. (Grades K-3)

We will feature one of David Kelly’s Ballpark Mysteries books, solve some mysteries of our own, and explore a famous ballpark. Come hungry! No ballpark is complete without hot dogs and chips! (Please alert us of any food allergies).

Learn Bus – Monday, April 6 at 6 p.m.

Bouncing Babies and Books – Tuesday, April 7, 14, 21, and 28 at 10:30 a.m.

This storytime, for babies birth-24 months, will include a book, lots of singing, some musical instruments, and a lot of fun for you and your baby! No registration required.

Lunch Day and Open Play – Tuesday, April 7, 14, 21, and 28 at 12 p.m.

Set aside a special day to join friends for lunch (optional) and open play at the library! Open play runs from 11:30 a.m-12:30 p.m., so kids ages 2 and up can enjoy play activities. T

Spring Travel Series – Starting Tuesday, April 7 at 7 p.m.

Join us as we "travel the world" this spring and experience some great destinations. Refreshments and fun for all. No registration is needed for this six-week series.

Reading Rockets Book Club – Wednesday, April 8 at 6:30 p.m.

Blast off and explore picture books with your child through play and hands-on activities at our new book club geared for children ages 3-6 (siblings welcome). Each month, we will focus on one book and make connections to the story through fun and engaging book extension stations. Registration required. This month’s selection: The Hungry Caterpillar

Family Craft Me a Story – Thursday, April 9 and 23 at 6:30 p.m.

Head to the library for our new evening family story/craft time that will be held every other week! A story, songs, musical instruments, parachute play, bubbles, and a related craft at each session! No registration required.

Friends Meeting – Thursday, April 9 at 7 p.m.

Preschool Alphabet Parade – Friday April 10 and 17at 10:30 a.m.

Fun stories, songs, activities, and a craft for children ages 3-5 with a caregiver. We will travel through the alphabet and feature a letter each week. Children are welcome to bring an object to storytime that begins with our weekly featured letter!

Teen Screen Fridays – Friday, April 10 at 6:30 p.m.

Come to the library to relax, take in a teen movie, and have some delicious snacks and drinks! Registration required. Mockingjay Part 1 – PG-13.

Dance Me a Story with Pittsburgh Ballet Theater – Saturday, April 11, 18, and 25 at 10 a.m.

3-5 year olds can dance out some favorite early childhood stories! Each 45-minute class will begin with simple stretches and warm-ups before journeying into each story and its characters through movement and song. Parents are encouraged to participate with their child! Registration required.

eReader Classes: iPad & Tablet Devices - Monday, April 13 and 20 at 6:30 p.m.

Come learn how to find, download and transfer free library eBooks to your eReaders and tablets.

Sessions are grouped by device and participants should bring their library card and a fully charged device. Registration required.

Good Reads, Good Deeds Book Club – Wednesday, April 15 at 6:30 p.m.

This book club, for children in grades 3-6 (along with an adult caregiver), will focus on stories that highlight character traits such as kindness, caring, compassion, acceptance, and differences. Books will be available at the library one month before each club meeting date. During each book discussion meeting, we will decide on a monthly service project. Registration requested. This month's selection: Out of my Mind.

ABC Book Club - Thursday, April 16 at 2 p.m.

We read anything! Join us for a delightful book conversation each month. New members welcome. This month’s selection: Still Life with Bread Crumbs by Anna Quindlen.

Board Meeting – Thursday, April 16 at 7 p.m.

Book Bingo – Friday, April 17 at 2 p.m.

Come and play free bingo games, with the prizes being -- yes, you guessed it --BOOKS! No registration required.

Celebrate National Library Week! - Friday, April 17 at 6:30 p.m.

Join us in celebration of all the wonderful changes the library has made! See our new and improved children's room and adult collections, meet staff and Board members, and learn more about the happenings of the library! We will have games, food trucks, free dessert and prizes!

Cryptography and Collage – Friday, April 17 at 6:30 p.m.

We know the patterns. We see the signs. Learn to hide messages in plain sight and create art from the stolen scraps of mass media. Registration required.

Backyard Composting Workshop - Saturday April 18 at 1 p.m.

Learn how to turn your yard waste and food scraps into a valuable resource for your garden. Participants will receive an Earth Machine Compost Bin with attendance. Preregistration is required.

Getting Crafty with Michelle – Tuesday, April 21 (Grades K -3) and 28 at 6:30 p.m. (Grades 4 - 6)

Join local Michael’s craft instructor Michelle as she introduces a new, exciting craft of the month, and take home a beautiful, unique creation! Registration requested. Tonight will feature glass and tile mosaics!

AARP Safe Driving Course – Wednesday, April 22 and Thursday, April 23 at 9 a.m.

This safe driving course is designed to educate drivers who may benefit from a refresher to review safety tips and newer laws. You may also receive a discount from your insurance company. Cost: AARP member $15; non-member $20 payable by cash or check to instructor. Please register by April 15, online or by calling the library at 412-885-2255.

Current Movies – Wednesday, April 22 at 2 p.m.

Come to the library to enjoy a just released movie for FREE. Light refreshments will be served. No registration required! Due to unknown release dates, movie titles will be announced on at the beginning of every month.

One Book, Every Young Child’ Author Visit – Friday, April 24 at 10:30 a.m.

We are hosting children’s book author and illustrator Greg Pizzoli! His latest picture book, Number One Sam, has been chosen as the 2015 Pennsylvania One Book, Every Young Child selection. Mr. Pizzoli’s visit is open to the public, and each child will receive a FREE copy of his book (autographed at the conclusion of the program). Registration required.

Teen Night: Mystery at the Library – Friday, April 24, at 6:30 p.m.

Hunt down clues and untangle riddles at an after-hours scavenger hunt! Snacks, drinks, and prizes included! Grades 6-12. Registration required. This program is for students in grades 6-12.

Family Flick Fridays – Friday, April 24 at 7 p.m.

Enjoy a new release family move that your whole family will love! Kids can bring their blankets, pillows, and stuffed friend – we will provide popcorn and a drink! Registration requested. Please check our website for titles.

Pollinator Gardening - Saturday April 25 at 1 p.m.

In addition to honeybees, there are thousands of native bees that are important pollinators. Learn how to create a pollinator-friendly landscape that encourages biodiversity in the environment. Susan Parker, Penn State Master Gardener. Registration required.

TAB! (Teen Advisory Board) – Monday, April 27 at 6:30 p.m.

Come share your ideas and have your voice be heard about what YOU want to see at the library, recommend books, websites, programs, and social media to other teens, and earn volunteer hours. Become involved in YOUR community and YOUR library! Registration requested.

Health Fair & Healthy Fest at Your Library – Wednesday, April 29 at 1-3 p.m.

Sponsored by South Hills Community Connect, a local group of health care providers and businesses, this event will feature a great group of people who will have some tasty food samples and other giveaways for everyone. No registration is necessary. Just come and enjoy!

Brushes Before Bedtime - Family Art Night – Wednesday, April 29 at 6:30 p.m.

Join us for a night of family art using various techniques and leave with a masterpiece designed by your entire family! We will provide the supplies and art smocks. No age limit requirements. A “how to draw” segment will be included in each program. Registration requested. Tonight: “Happy Butterflies.”
