Civil War Author Event
The West Newton Library has a special treat for those who love stories about the Civil War, especially if it originates out of West Newton. On Saturday, April 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., come and spend some time with author Edwin P. Hogan as he discusses his book, Waiting for Jacob: A Civil War Story. The book focuses on actual letters that were written by Lieutenant Colonel Jacob W. Greenawalt and his wife Rebecca during the Civil War.
Please call the library at 724-972-3229 to reserve your seat. The event will take place at the West Newton Senior Center, located at the corner of Main and Water Street. A suggested donation of $5 is requested to help support West Newton Library community programming.
2nd Annual Progressive Dinner
The West Newton Public Library is pleased to announce its 2nd Annual Progressive Dinner to benefit the library on Saturday, April 18 starting at 5 p.m. This year’s event will feature three historic locations in West Newton, which include the First Baptist Church, West Newton United Presbyterian Church, and the West Newton United Methodist Church. The dinner will include stops at all three churches for appetizers, main course, and desserts. While at each church, you have the opportunity to explore the Victorian sanctuaries and take in the historic architecture and stained glass windows.
The menu includes a large selection of appetizers, a main course of a petite chicken pot pie, Cesar salad, bread and drinks, and finally a large selection of desserts. We again will have a nice selection of gift baskets at our last location.
Tickets are just $15 and can be purchased at Gary's Chuck Wagon on South Second Street in West Newton or at West Newton Public Library 724-972-3229. There will be two seatings for the event – 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. - so please specify which one when purchasing. PLEASE NOTE THIS IS AN ADVANCE TICKET EVENT and no tickets will be sold at the door. Buy your tickets early due to limited space.
Story and Craft Hour
Saturday, April 18 is our children's story and craft hour starting at 10 a.m. This month we will find out whatever happened to the fourth little pig. The mystery will be solved in the book titled The Fourth Little Pig by Theresa Celsi, illustrated by Doug Cushman.
Save the Date! 3rd Annual Mega Jewelry and Book Sale
Save the date for the West Newton Library's 3rd Annual Mega Jewelry and Book Sale at the library on Saturday, June 6 during the town's community-wide yard sale. The library is still accepting donations of gently used jewelry. All donations are tax deductible.
The library is also actively seeking donations of china tea pots and tea cups and saucers for our fall tea. If you would like to make a donation please give the library a call.
