Bailey, currently a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster for the troop, is the son of Brian and AnnMarie Bauer and the grandson of Richard and Eileen Bauer and Betty Zajac of Fredericktown. He is a senior attending Bethlehem Center High School and is a third-generation Scout — his father and grandfather preceded him and his brothers in the program.

His scouting career began in 2005 as a member of Cub Scout Pack 1515. In addition to working his way through the ranks of Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, he has earned many merit badges and gained membership in the Order of the Arrow, the BSA National Honor Society. He also is a staff member for the Heritage Reservation Camp for Scouts at Farmington in Fayette County and works there every summer.

As a result of Bailey’s service project, residents, visitors and staff at the Residence At Hilltop Personal Care Community in Carroll Township are enjoying updated vegetable and flower gardening opportunities. Bailey was assisted by other members of Troop 1515, including his brothers, Benett and Bryson. Adult leaders working with the Scouts included Scoutmaster Rich Anderson and others. Bauer worked directly with R.A.H. Executive Director Walt Young and Activities Director Lynn Matsick on the project’s initial design.

The project included expansion of the vegetable garden. Six large planter tubs were mounted on concrete blocks and had the potential to tip over, so stronger wood stands on wheels were built to support the tubs. A bench was built for the patio for gardeners to sit on and rest. In addition, five cedar planter stands were built and placed next to five existing benches that wrap around the walking path in the back of the center. Soil and flower plants were supplied for the enjoyment of the gardening club participants.

The Residence At Hilltop is operated by Mon-Vale Non-Acute Care Services, a subsidiary of Mon-Vale Health Resources Inc., parent company of Monongahela Valley Hospital.
