Local People

The neighbors of Sylvania Heights, Clairton, and neighboring Jefferson Hills had a huge surprise waiting for mailman Dennis Axelson on Saturday, August 30, which was his last day on the job before retirement.

Chuck and Rose Kaiser and Rick McAchren, neighborhood residents, got up early to pass out helium-filled balloons to all the people along Dennis' route, tying them to their mailboxes. When Dennis arrived in the morning, as he has faithfully for the last 25 years, the residents were waiting to thank him for his wonderful service for the past 2 ½ decades and to wish him a happy retirement.

Dennis thought someone was having quite a party when he parked his truck to begin his final deliveries. He was quite surprised to find out that the party was for him. Dennis will be greatly missed and the mornings won't be quite the same without him.
