Thanks for Liking Us on Facebook!

The “Donora Historical Society and Smog Museum” launched a Facebook page a couple of months ago so that people interested in what we are doing can follow us.

If you are one of those people, please find us and like us as others have already done. All of our upcoming presentations and events will be announced here, along with our website and various newspapers. Our central source of all info related to the Donora Historical Society and Smog Museum will continue to be our website, but the Facebook page will be used to quickly make announcements and a place for people to share information.

Game Films – Mon Valley Catholic Basketball
Recently, we transferred five Mon Valley Catholic High School basketball games from 16mm to DVD: one from the 1977-'78 season and four from the 1978-'79 season. The game from the 1977-'78 is senior/parents night against Frazier. The four games from the 1978-7'9 season are against Beth Center, Greensburg Central Catholic, Albert Gallatin and Frazier. The 1978-'79 Frazier game is also senior/parents night. Both senior/parents night games do briefly feature the senior players and cheerleaders with their parents.

Look for future announcements of “Game Night” activities when we show a couple of football games to an audience at a venue to be determined.

If you have any interest or have questions on exactly which games we have, please consult the Historical Society by voice mail or email listed below, or see the full list of games on the website under the “Game Films” tab.

Civil War Presentation at The Mon Valley YMCA
Our Mon Valley ancestors called it “The War of the Rebellion.” The American Civil War reached into every, city, town, village, borough and hamlet in the nation, profoundly touching every citizen and defining the nation. Nearly everyone is drawn to the stories of ordinary people living through extraordinary events. Surprising as it may be, many of those stories are about men, women and children who lived here in the mid-Mon Valley. This presentation was held as part of the Donora Historical Society outreach program in June at the Mon Valley YMCA for History Enthusiasts Day and examined our Mon Valley connections in the Civil War as we traced the origins of the names Ringgold and Starkweather, met some members (and one horse) of the Ringgold Cavalry, and followed ordinary soldiers into epic battles and then back to the Valley to live out their lives. Please contact the Mon Valley YMCA for future History Enthusiasts Days.
