Former Courtney residents from all over the U.S. will join others in the Mon Valley for a first ever Courtney reunion. Anyone with a Courtney connection, past or present, is invited.

In its heyday, Courtney was a vibrant coal mining community where many Italian and Slavic families settled. On April 23, 1913, a mine owned by the Monongahela River Coal company experienced an explosion, trapping 250 workers inside. Most of them were reported to have died in the Courtney accident. Courtney is now a neighborhood of the borough of New Eagle.

The reunion will take place at Hill's Restaurant on September 9, 2016. RSVPs and prepayment for the buffet dinner are required. Guests are requested to bring old photos and other memorabilia and attending families will receive a memory book. To make a reservation or for more information, contact Judy Donina Wolfe at 714-846-3700, email judithwolfe@hotmail.com, or join the "We're From Courtney" group on Facebook.
