Bunola River Road Bridge Reopens; Construction to Begin on Mill Hill Road Bridge

An Allegheny County bridge that began construction in May has been completed in Forward Township. The Bunola River Road bridge over Perry Mill Run has reopened to traffic today. The new bridge is designed to last as long as 100 years.

Rapid Bridge Replacement Project

The Bunola River Road bridge replacement is part of the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project, a public-private partnership (P3) between PennDOT and Plenary Walsh Keystone Partners (PWKP), under which PWKP will finance, design, replace and maintain for 25 years 558 bridges on state roadways.

Additionally, the Rapid Bridge Replacement Project is continuing in Allegheny County with the construction of a bridge beginning in August. The Mill Hill Road bridge over Wylie Run in Elizabeth Township is scheduled to close on August 15, 2016. This closure was originally scheduled for May 2016. Traffic will be detoured using Mill Hill Road to SR 48 to SR 2010. Construction will take approximately five weeks to complete. The bridge was built in 1930 and averages 1,580 vehicles a day.

The P3 approach will allow PennDOT to replace the bridges more quickly while achieving significant savings and minimizing impact on motorists.
