The Washington County Community Foundation (WCCF) is pleased to announce the creation of the Friends of MarkWest Scholarship Fund with a $50,000 gift to support recent high school graduates as well as non-traditional students attending the Western Area Career & Technology Center (WACTC).

MarkWest is engaged in the gathering, processing, and transportation of natural gas and is the largest midstream service provider in the Marcellus Shale with over 4.9 Bcf/d of natural gas processing capacity at six major complexes. “In keeping with our commitment to support educational endeavors in the local community, MarkWest is pleased to support the programs at Western Area Career & Technology Center that closely align with MarkWest’s operations,” said Manager of Special Projects, Robert McHale.

WACTC seeks to provide the successful acquisition and expansion of technical skills for a positive, quality education in a safe and secure environment leading to post-secondary education and/or sustainable employment for its students. Dr. Dennis McCarthy, Executive Director of WACTC, expressed his appreciation for this new scholarship opportunity, “Western Area wants to express its thanks to the Friends of MarkWest for their thoughtfulness and consideration of our school.”

Scholarships will typically be valued at $2,000 and are designated to students enrolled in the manufacturing, electrical, or commercial driver’s license program of WACTC. To coincide with the open enrollment at WACTC for these fields of study, applications will be considered by the WCCF on a monthly basis until the available money is exhausted.
Applications must be submitted electronically using the Friends of MarkWest Scholarship Application available on www.wccf.net. Additionally, students must provide hard copies of their supporting documentation to the WCCF office at 1253 Route 519, P.O. Box 308, Eighty Four, PA 15330. All components of the application must be received in order for any student to be considered for a scholarship.

The mission of the Washington County Community Foundation is to improve the quality of life in Washington County by promoting and facilitating philanthropy. It manages both temporary and permanent scholarship funds and has awarded more than $1.3 million in scholarships to local students.
