Meals on Wheels (MOW) of Peters Township continues to accept new clients throughout its entire service area. The independent, non-profit program delivers nutritious, freshly-made meals to anyone who has difficulty shopping for food or cooking meals, regardless of income. They primarily serve senior citizens but can also assist others in special circumstances such as a disability or illness.

Thanks to generous community support and dedicated volunteers, the program provides good quality meals for a modest fee throughout a wide area that includes Peters Township, Canonsburg, Houston, Lawrence, Finleyville, Eighty-Four, Bridgeville/S. Fayette, and parts of Upper St. Clair and Bethel Park. The meals consist of a hot entrée with two sides, plus soup, salad, and dessert, and for an additional small fee, a sandwich, juice, and cookie. Clients give rave reviews for the quality of the meals.

This MOW program has undergone many changes since starting out in a church basement 42 years ago with only a handful of clients. Client numbers grew steadily over the years and especially after moving to the current location above the Peters Township Fire Department in 2009, maxing out at 215 clients in January of 2016. Currently between 150 and 180 clients are served per day, but the program has the capacity to accommodate many more.

Another big change is on the horizon, as Meals on Wheels of Peters Township we will be moving to a new site sometime next year. While the details of the new lease have not yet been finalized, current and future clients can rest assured that it will be a local, centralized location from which the MOW staff and volunteers will continue to prepare and deliver meals throughout all of the communities that they currently serve.

Anyone who needs meal service is encouraged to call 724-969-1000 for more information. Updates and photos of the organization’s work can be viewed online at www.Facebook.com/MOWPT.
