The Peters Creek Trail Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation again donated turkeys to area food distribution centers for Thanksgiving. This project was part of the NWTF’s national program, Turkey Hunters Care.

Over the past 12 years, the chapter has donated 2, 608 frozen turkeys to needy families and was pleased to provide 323 turkeys to area food distribution centers this year. Their 2016 efforts were enhanced by a $1,000 grant from Walmart, allowing them to purchase a total of $5,000 worth of turkeys to be distributed. The remainder of the money was raised through generous donations, ticket sales, and their annual banquet. Ralph Croushore, Chapter president, stated, “We are just trying to give back to the community.”

The NWTF is a nonprofit conservation organization that works daily to further its mission of conserving the wild turkey and preserving our hunting heritage. Through dynamic partnerships with state and federal wildlife agencies, the NWTF and its members have helped restore wild turkey populations throughout North America—from a mere 30,000 in the united states to more than 7 million across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
