Representatives from Adopt-a-Platoon are collecting pillow cases for US troops stationed in the Middle East. The pillow cases can be plain colors or decorative.

They will be given to wounded soldiers in military hospitals to store paperwork and personal items. The government-issued bags they typically receive tear easily, causing the soldiers to lose their personal property.

The plain-colored pillow cases will be decorated for the soldiers by classrooms and community groups before they are sent. If you have a group that would like to decorate the pillow cases, send a message to Historywriter83@yahoo.com.

These pillow cases will not only serve the purpose of helping soldiers to store their belongings; the decorated pillow cases will also boost their morale and remind them that there are plenty of people back home supporting them.

Those wishing to donate pillowcases can bring them to State Representative Rick Saccone's office at 1002 Old Hickory Lane in Jefferson Hills or to the West Elizabeth Borough Building at 800 Fourth Street on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. – noon.

The pillow cases will be collected through the month of March.
