The Washington County Community Foundation (WCCF) recently awarded a $7,000 grant from the Danny DaPra Legacy Fund to Canon-McMillan School District.

Members of the DaPra family met with Canon-McMillan High School Athletic Director Frank Vulcano, Jr., cheer coaches, and cheerleaders to present the grant, which will be used to purchase tumbler mats for the cheerleading program and other school activity groups.
When Danny DaPra died unexpectedly in January 2005, family members and a close-knit group of friends from Peters Township High School created the Danny DaPra Legacy Fund at the WCCF. The primary focus of this donor advised fund is youth programming in Canonsburg and Peters Township. Danny attended Peters Township, and his three daughters, Gianna, Celena, and Isabella, attend school in the Canon-McMillan School District. This is the first grant to be awarded from the Danny DaPra Legacy Fund, which is valued at approximately $50,000.
“Community was very important to Danny and he loved sports, both as a player and a spectator,” remarked Dennis DaPra, Danny’s brother. “We felt this grant to purchase tumbler mats for the cheerleading program and other groups at the Canon-McMillan High School was a perfect way to honor Danny’s memory.”
Danny DaPra graduated from Robert Morris College with a degree in industrial marketing, and was employed as a medical sales representative for Vanguard. His love of sports began when he was a young athlete in Peters Township and remained with him throughout his life. He was particularly happy to work as a camera man for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers, and Penguins, as it provided the opportunity for him to see the action much closer than most spectators ever get to see. Danny was devoted to his family and his church, the Holy Rosary Church in Muse. He was also a proud member of the Italian Heritage Society of Canonsburg, and he loved to cook.
