Three members of St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Bethel Park visited Trax Farms in mid-October on a big pumpkin hunt. The Trax Farms one-of-a-kind family business told parishioners that they were welcome to pick out two of the largest pumpkins on hand for the church’s annual fundraising raffle to benefit charity.

This is only their second annual pumpkin raffle, and coordinator Kelly Wdowiak said that the raffle couldn’t come at a better time. “After we raffle off the pumpkins to the highest bidder at the annual church function, we are going to send the proceeds to benefit the Red Cross and the victims of recent hurricanes in Florida.”
Last year's raffle brought in nearly $500 to benefit their Angel Fund, which helps cover tuition costs for families. Pumpkins for last fall’s event were also donated by Trax Farms.
This year’s event is run by the St. Thomas More School Student Council, made up of 24 members in grades 6 through 8. Student Council teacher sponsors include Amy Nowakowski, Kelly Wdowiak and Shannon Zimm. “All students agreed that those people recently affected by wildfires, hurricanes, and earthquakes are in desperate need of assistance, and the students wanted to help in any way that they could,” said Ms.Wdowiak.
