Thanksgiving Day is a time to spend with those you care for and for all to come together to share a delicious meal. At this event, it was also a time to make new friends. This was the whole idea behind the Monessen Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner on Thursday, November 23, 2017 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

The Monessen Salvation Army sponsored the 4th annual dinner, and By George Catering, 1 Monongahela St., Monessen, cooked and allowed use of their dining space for the event. Captain Joel and Captain Sue Thwaite of The Salvation Army, feel “very blessed to be able to provide this meal to the community.”

The tasty holiday meal included a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with a customary menu. Featured were: turkey, corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, buns, stuffing, sweet potatoes, spinach, and desserts such as: strawberry rhubarb pie, lemon pie, and pumpkin pie. The staff and volunteers were extremely friendly and helpful, the location was great, the meal delicious, and this year was one of the best dinners ever.

Captain Sue Thwaite said, “I feel this event does much more than just feed hungry people. I feel that it brings people of all ages together to cook, serve and enjoy a meal together. Many people in our community would spend the holiday alone, and this is an opportunity to have fellowship along with a home-cooked meal.”
