Play it Forward Pittsburgh has been helping families during the Christmas season for seven years. They collect gently used toys, games, and books that are later given to families in need. Each family is free to choose three toys and three books per child.

Heather Starr Fiedler, co-founder of Play it Forward Pittsburgh, expressed, “Every single toy we collect goes to a local boy or girl and so every toy has an impact on someone's life to make their holiday season special.”

Play it Forward Pittsburgh has since teamed up with the Carnegie Science Center in an innovative way. The Science Center is collecting Legos to create a builder activity area, to be located in the Suzy Broadhurst Overlook. The builder activity area will open on June 16, 2018 and will remain open until January 2019. The Legos will then be donated to Play it Forward Pittsburgh.

The Carnegie Science Center will collect the Legos until June 8, 2018. If you have gently used Lego-brand bricks/sets that you would like to donate, simply drop them into Carnegie Science Center's giant PPG paint can located in the lobby of the museum. They can be brought in during the museum’s hours of operation. They ask that people please avoid bringing in broken pieces.

The builder activity area will be available to guests with the purchase of a ticket to the Art of the Brick. Nicole Chynoweth, Manager of Marketing, Public Relations, and Social Media at the Carnegie Science Center, explained, “The builder activity area will open in conjunction with the Art of the Brick, the world’s largest Lego art exhibit. This exhibit is the first touring show that will be featured in our new Scaife Exhibit Gallery in the new PPG Science Pavilion.”
