On Saturday, March 31 - a sunny but very windy and chilly day at Monessen City Park Walking Track - Kare For My Kids Fly held their annual Easter egg hunt for the third year in Monessen, and the crowds turned out. The event featured: games, a Chinese auction, kids’ snacks, refreshments, music by DJ Eric Tartt, and fun for the whole family.

Dennis Hawkins, Jr., president and founder of Kare For My Kids Fly, is a proud father of daughter Kenza and son Dennis Hawkins III.

Dennis Hawkins, Jr., president and founder of Kare for My Kids Fly, said the program “exists to create a sense of purpose and self-worth [so] that our youth may one day become assets of our society.” The program holds summer skating parties, football camp, basketball contests, and rewards hard work in the classroom, and additionally sponsors activities, such as the Easter egg hunt.

Hawkins also operates Kare 4 My Kids Convenience Store, a family-owned business located at 601 Reed Ave., Monessen. His mother, Noreen Tartt, said, “The store is awesome, plus he (Hawkins) is my son. He has worked to build his business for his family. Support him!”

Their vision for the future is a rec center in Monessen. Hawkins said it would be located in the old Agape school on top of Summit. This would be a place, according to one contributor, for the kids to have somewhere to play and grow safely.

Please visit the Kare For My Kids Fly Rec Center – GoFundMe page online to donate to their $100,000 goal toward the center. You can help make the dream of a new rec center a reality. Help spread the word!
