Area Residents Share Their Questions and Concerns with Candidates

The Monongahela Area Revitalization Corporation (MARC) hosted the 12th Annual Town Hall Meeting on Monday night September 17th at the Monongahela VFD’s Social Hall in Monongahela.

One hundred forty four residents from Washington, Greene, Beaver, Allegheny, and Butler counties filled the hall. Featured candidates were incumbents Senator Camera Bartolotta, R-Carroll and Rep. Bud Cook R-West Pike Twp., and their respective challengers James Craig D-North Strabane Twp. and Steve Toprani D-Monongahela.

The 2 ½ hour affair was patterned after the New England Town Hall in which the audience asked their questions directly to the panel. George Eckert, MARC President, moderated the night which began with the Pledge of Allegiance, introduction and brief overview by the candidates followed by the Q and A session. Each panelist was given two minutes to offer their answer to the crowd.

Topics of the questions included: the legalization of marijuana, governmental “Red Tape” when municipalities deal with the DEP, minimum wage increases, school property taxes, impact fees from the gas companies, the stocking of streams, and the retooling of the Mitchell Power Station in Union Township.

The members of MARC wish to thank EQT for their continued support of the Town Hall Meetings and to the Monongahela VFD for the use of their Social Hall.
