Rep. Bud Cook (R-Washington/Fayette) announced recently that two 49th Legislative District municipalities have been awarded approximately $141,000 in grants under the Department of Conservation and National Resources (DCNR) Community Conservation Partnership Program (CCPP).

Specific municipalities and grant amounts awarded are as follows:

• $50,000 to Donora Borough for preparation of a trail study to develop approximately 53 miles of the Monongahela Valley Corridor spanning six municipalities in Washington County.

• $91,000 to Franklin Township, Fayette County for further development of Franklin Community Park, including the construction of ADA accessible pedestrian walkways and parking area, landscaping, and other related projects and site improvements.

“It’s no secret that our local communities are already thriving places to live, work and raise a family,” said Cook. “I applaud everyone involved at Donora Borough and Franklin Township for meeting all the necessary requirements to qualify for this funding and, more importantly, for delivering two more positive examples of what can be accomplished when community and state government leaders work together to conserve our natural resources and improve the overall quality life in Fayette and Washington counties.”

The CCPP program is administered by DCNR’s Bureau of Recreation and Conservation to provide financial and technical assistance to local governments, river and trail organizations, land trusts and other nonprofit entities for the planning, acquisition and development of park, recreation, conservation and greenway projects.
