Each year, the members of the Auxiliary of Mon-Vale Health Resources Inc. give their time and energy to enhance the quality of patient care at Monongahela Valley Hospital (MVH).

On June 24, the annual Auxiliary Appreciation Dinner was held in the hospital’s Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center.

In upholding a tradition that spans some four decades, the Auxiliary of Mon-Vale Health Resources, Inc. presented a gift to Monongahela Valley Hospital totaling $50,500. The total includes the Auxiliary’s $1,000 donation to the 2019 Gala and $500 Volunteen scholarship. The 2019 gift brings the Auxiliary’s total donation for the past 41 years to approximately $3.5 million.

“This is truly a heartfelt gift and it took a lot of hands to make this possible,” said Louis J. Panza Jr., MVH’s president and CEO. “I am told that you cleaned more than 125 pounds of strawberries for the Strawberry Festival, sold over 1,500 pretzels during the Lobby sales, and made thousands of milkshakes and cheeseburgers in the Gift Shop to raise these funds.”

During the celebration, awards were presented to Auxiliary members who reached milestone hours of volunteering time at MVH and five women were recognized for their untiring service to the Auxiliary. Ruthann Dulovich, who serves as the assistant treasurer, was honored as the newest Life Member. In addition, Martha Durinsky was recognized for achieving 2,500 hours of service; Joyce Amantangelo recorded 1,000 service hours; and Cindy Patterson and Katie Recaldini each achieved 500 hours of service.

Receiving the 2019 Volunteen scholarship was Karlen Brovey, a recent graduate of Charleroi Area High School. For the past three years, Karlen has volunteered at MVH, accruing 142 hours of service in the Lab and Occupational Therapy departments. In the fall, she will attend the University of Toledo where she will study pharmacy.
