2020 Events and Fundraisers Announced
The Monongahela Area Revitalization Corporation (MARC), a 501c(3), is a Community Development Corporation (CDC) comprised of volunteers interested in the sustained development of the Greater Monongahela Area: Monongahela, New Eagle, and Carroll Township.

MARC has recently donated money to the Monongahela Volunteer Fire Department, New Eagle Volunteer Fire Department, Carroll Township Volunteer Fire Department, Valley Inn Volunteer Fire Department and the Tri-Community Ambulance Service.
“Our First Responders are a valued service in our communities,” stated George I. Eckert, The President of MARC, who has just started his fourth year as the head of the organization. “Many times, our First Responders are overlooked for what they do for our citizens. It takes a large cash flow to keep equipment up to current standards for these organizations to function properly not to mention the continuing education needed to keep certifications updated.”
MARC has also partnered with the Monongahela Police Department in a fund-raising campaign. In 2019 The City of Monongahela’s Police Department was one of 372 jurisdictions in Pennsylvania to receive Federal funding through the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant. They received $6,569.71 in federal matching funds.
Out of 22 certified police officers within the Monongahela Police Department, 15 officers do not have a bulletproof vest that would qualify to be compliant with current National Institute of Justice (NIJ) standards. A new vest cost between $800 to $1,200. The variation is due to the different threat levels of soft body armor that are available. MARC wants to raise $15,000 so they may purchase a new bulletproof vest for the officers in need.
“We would be thankful if you would contribute,” said Eckert. A special “Vest Account” has been established. Any donation would be appreciated. Checks may be sent to MARC, 102 Baywood Drive, Monongahela, PA 15063. Please make your tax deductible check payable to “MARC – Police Vest Fund.”
In other MARC news, May 2 is the date for the 2020 “MARC Annual Pooch Parade.” This community event will celebrate its twelfth consecutive year, showcases dogs of all sizes, breeds, colors, shapes, and sizes, trekking the business district of Monongahela from Second Street to Chess Park. The Monongahela Animal Hospital hosted a Rabies Clinic in New Eagle last fall and generously donated all proceeds to this year’s “Pooch Parade”
Planning is underway for the 2020 “On Your MARC 5K Run/Walk.” Last year’s highly successful event was held on the Saturday of the Monongahela 250th. A date for this year’s event will be posted soon.

“Movies in the Mounds” will return for a second consecutive year. The Bronco Field at Memorial Park on Mound Street will be the site of yet to be selected movies. Free to the public, the films will be shown on the third Friday of June, July, and August and will begin at dusk.
In September, MARC will hold its “Annual Town Hall Meeting” sponsored by EQT. Topics will be released in July. The event will be held at the Monongahela Fire Hall.
October and December will bring on the Fall Harvest and Christmas Season decorating contests. These events have been growing in popularity the past few years with greater community participation throughout the MARC area.
MARC meetings are held the third Monday of the month and are open to the public. The meetings begin at 6:30 PM and are held at the Monongahela Fire Hall.
