The Joyful Bloomers Garden Club held their monthly meeting on November 3 at Kane Community Living Center in McKeesport.

The meeting began with an interesting report on screech owls by Sally Buchleitner.  Many species are nocturnal and feed on vols, mice and other rodents. Their flight is silent as they use sonar to find their prey.

Would you like to reduce the amount of spiders in and around your house? Add 10 drops of essential peppermint oil in a spray bottle to a half cup of water.  If you are planting bubs for the spring, make sure they are at least 6 inches in depth.

The Joyful Bloomers participated in the Elizabeth Township Historical Society's Log Cabin Days in September and enjoyed meeting and talking to the residents of the community.

Several members of the club attended a clean-up in one of the two courtyards at Kane.  Weeds were pulled, bulbs were planted, and mulch was laid.  What an improvement!

The club will be taking part in McKeesport's ‘Festival of Trees’ being held December 2-6.  We will enter a tree filled with ornaments that our members made at the November meeting. Our Christmas is planned for December 1 at Rock Run Inn.  Please take the time to enjoy the Christmas Holiday Season and think about joining a garden club.
