$10,000 Award Given in Memory of Jamie Ellenberger

Passavant Memorial Homes Foundation (PMHF) encourages western Pennsylvania students to apply for the organization’s annual Community Service Scholarship.  The scholarship awards $10,000 in funding for post-secondary education tuition costs to a high school senior who exemplifies the commitment of PMHF and the late Jamie Ellenberger to serving and improving their community.

PMHF has provided detailed information about the scholarship to 246 high schools in the western Pennsylvania region, where Passavant Memorial Homes Family of Services (PMHFOS) provides a complete range of support services to over 10,000 individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, and behavioral health needs.

The scholarship was created to honor Jamie Ellenberger, an individual PMHFOS was privileged to serve and who was an active member of the community.  The principle of community is central to PMHFOS’s mission, including efforts to engage in community initiatives and be involved in community improvements.  PMHFOS is seeking to award this scholarship to a student in the region who brings that same understanding of the value of community service. PMHFOS also intends for this scholarship to continue raising awareness about intellectual disabilities and the opportunities available to pursue careers in providing supports and services to individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, and behavioral health needs.

In addition to its focus on service to the community, criteria for PMHF’s scholarship include academic honors and awards and extracurricular activities, along with the completion of an application process and essays.  Applicants must also submit three letters of recommendation highlighting the student’s character, academic achievements, and their demonstration of leadership in the community.

Eligible high schools include those in the following counties: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Bedford, Butler, Cambria, Clarion, Crawford, Erie, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence, Mercer, Somerset, Venango, Washington, and Westmoreland.

Applications must be received by April 29, 2022, and additional information can be found at www.pmhfos.org.
