The Bradford House Historical Association and Washington & Jefferson College Present the 2024 Symposium on Life and Customs in Western Pennsylvania on Friday, April 5 at 6:30pm. This event will at The Chapel at Old Main on the campus of Washington & Jefferson College, in Washington, PA.
This year's speakers feature ‘Meriwether Lewis’ and ‘William Clark’, portrayed by Doug Thomas and Steven Edenbo. Thomas is a professional actor who has been involved in historical interpretation for over 15 years, and Edenbo has been interpreting with the American Historical Theater since 1999. Together, they bring the explorers to life and offer an in-depth look to the famed men's lives and the bridge to the frontier.
Lewis and Clark regale audiences with stories of calm bravery in the face of danger, determination in the face of overwhelming odds, and good, old-fashioned adventure from the adventures of the Corps of Discovery. The interplay between the distinct personalities of the Captains made them a leadership team unsurpassed in American history. Those same differences in personality are now the ingredients for an entertaining stage performance that mixes humor with facts that allows audiences of all ages to truly enjoy an educational experience. Every presentation ends with a question & answer session, allowing the audience to lead the conversation in the direction of their own choosing.

Symposium Jr.
This symposium tailored towards a younger audience will also be held on Saturday, April 6 at 10:00AM at the Meeting House, 182 South Main Street, Washington, PA. This event will be geared towards children, ages 8-12 years old (grades 3-6).
At this symposium, children will have the opportunity to learn about the incredible adventures of Lewis and Clark, two of America's most renowned explorers, and explore what life was like in western Pennsylvania. Through engaging presentations and hands-on activities, kids will be transported back in time to experience the thrill of discovery.
Our expert presenters will share fascinating tales of the expedition, highlighting the challenges, triumphs, and encounters with Native American tribes along the way. Children will have the chance to ask questions and participate in educational games!
