Madonna of the Trail Monument - One of twelve duplicate monuments along the National Pike. The monuments depict the strength of the pioneer woman, dressed in prairie style, going westward with courage and resilience. This monument is located on Route 40, in Beallsville, Pa, 12 miles west of Washington, Pa. (Photo credit: pinterest.com Peter Grondzioski Photographer).

Mr. Clay Kilgore, director of the Washington County Historical Society will present the story of the National Pike, a story that began long ago in animal trails and in paths of indians, who criss-crossed the ridges and valleys of the Alleghenies. Its fascinating history is alive and well in sites all along its route as well as in Washington County.

Come along for a ride that is sure to enlighten all about a national treasure that is designated a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark, a State Heritage Park, and a State Scenic Byway All-American Road. Several sites along its 90 mile stretch of road in Pennsylvania have been deemed historic and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
