A large crowd gathered and was taken back in time as DJ Dennis Wince played music reminiscent of the '50s and '60s at "Doo Wop in the Park" on Friday, July 25, at Monessen City Park, from 6 - 9 p.m. The event was the first to be held at the newly renovated amphitheater.

DJ Dennis Wince and Committee president Matt Shorraw have a discussion before the show.

President of the Monessen Amphitheater Committee Matt Shorraw said, "It's really exciting. I hope a lot of people will use it (the amphitheater) and become involved."

DJ Dennis Wince played the old-time music, some couples got up to dance as others sang along. Later, he said, "I want to get everyone off their feet," as he moved down into the crowd, playing "Sweet Caroline."

Food vendors were on site. RP's Barbeque had pulled pork and French fries. Armando's had pizza for sale. Refreshments were also available.

Plans are in the works for more activities at the amphitheater. Look for events to be announced.

The committee is made up of officers who include: Matt Shorraw, president; Jacquelyn Pierce, vice president; Karla Spangler, secretary; and Karen Lewitsky, treasurer.

If you would like to become involved with the amphitheater business on the committee or just helping out, e-mail monessenamphitheater@gmail.com.
