The Finleyville Volunteer Fire Department is planning an open house on Sunday, October 12, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

The FVFD serves the communities of Finleyville, Union Township and Nottingham Township. Families are encouraged to stop by the fire hall on Washington Ave. in Finleyville to learn more about the department's firefighting and emergency rescue capabilities.

Firefighting equipment will be available to see, including FVFD's big trucks and other specialized equipment. You'll see demonstrations of the "Jaws of Life" that can cut through an automobile body to rescue trapped passengers. Weather permitting, there will be other demonstrations, including hands-on use of extinguishers in putting out a real fire – something you hopefully won't ever need to use at home.

There will also be light refreshments for everyone and some fire prevention gifts to take home. Stop by and bring the kids - it's not a bad idea to have the kids see what to expect if they ever need emergency rescue assistance
