The Monessen Veterans Council paid tribute to our veterans with one of the grandest parades Monessen has ever seen. This 70th annual parade was held on November 8, 2014 at 2 p.m. in downtown Monessen and on the upper and lower streets, and a special luncheon for veterans took place beforehand at the Monessen Firemen's Social Hall.

Monessen Veterans Council Chairman Ron Chromulak waves to onlookers in the parade he organized.

The amount of planning and organization that went into this event was tremendous. Chairman of the Monessen Veterans Council Ron Chromulak said the event "was a huge success. There were a hundred different units. The parade lasted over an hour."

The enjoyable salute to the troops featured: high school bands, Boy Scout troops, and veterans groups from Westmoreland County to Washington Township. Also, there were many groups in vehicles, jeeps, and trucks, and with floats and displays.

Additionally, there were cars with Westmoreland and Washington County Commissioners and their veterans offices, and representatives from schools, churches, businesses and civic organizations.

Chromulak concluded, "Monessen has not seen a parade this big in a very long time."

Thanks and appreciation goes out to Chromulak, the Monessen Veterans Council, and other volunteers for their work and to the Mon Valley for their participation.
