It's January! Membership renewals are due for the Greater Monessen Historical Society. Membership runs on a calendar year of January to December. Individual memberships are $15 per year, $20 for a family, or $50 for a business. Membership includes four issues of the society newsletter, titled "Mon Valley Historian."

The upcoming spring exhibit will focus on the Finnish immigrants who settled in the area around Motheral Ave. Anyone having items or photos to loan or donate for the exhibit can contact the Monessen Heritage Museum at 724-684-8460. The exhibit will have a section dedicated to the world-renowned Louhi Band.

Plans are underway to schedule an upcoming item donation week, during which the public will be asked to donate items that have significant local historical value. We are looking for things that tell the story of the local schools, businesses, families, industries, clubs, organizations, etc. Start looking for these treasures!

Special thanks to Shirley Beneccio for designing the front show window display for Christmas! She created a winter wedding theme that added to the holiday beautification efforts of the business district.
