DEP Still Has Not Issued Go-Ahead Permit for Ramaco Deep Mine.

According to Nottingham Township officials, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has not come to a final decision on issuing a go-ahead permit for the proposed Ramaco Deep Mine on Little Mingo Road. The Lexington, KY- based deep mining company must meet 62 conditions imposed upon them by the township board of supervisors, if the mine is even approved by the DEP. According to Veronica Coptis, a member of the Center for Coalfield Justice, "Ramaco is proposing to dump their wastewater into an abandoned mine, footing the taxpayer with the bill for the treatment process." a charge the coal company would most likely refute. A public meeting on the issue will be held on January 19, 7:00 p.m. at the Nottingham Municipal Building.
