Colleen Murphy Arnowitz

Colleen is teacher in the Charleroi Area School District who has previously served in elective office at the county and local levels. She is a lifelong Democrat who has volunteered with many local, state, and national campaigns. Mrs. Arnowitz and her husband, Steve, serve as Washington County Democrat Committee members from the city of Monongahela.

As the daughter of former U.S. Representative and Mrs. Austin Murphy, Colleen has always demonstrated a clear commitment to the importance of voting and exercising one's right to participate in the electoral process. Citing her previous experience in elective office, her community involvement, and her years of teaching experience, Colleen stated that she has decided to take her desire to continue to serve the public in a new direction.

A graduate of California University of Pennsylvania, Colleen is a certified elementary and special education teacher. She has also obtained certification as a K-12 school principal. Colleen has mentored field students and pre-service teachers and has served as a middle school Dean of Students. She is a member of the Charleroi Area Education Association and has attended legislative advocacy trainings sponsored by the Pennsylvania State Education Association.

Colleen belongs to the Charleroi Rotary Club, the Monongahela Women's Club, and the California University Alumni Association Board of Directors. For the past five years she has been a volunteer with Monongahela Valley Hospital's "Ask Me Greeter" program. Additionally, Colleen currently serves as the President of the Board of Directors of Mon Valley Community Health Services (a subsidiary corporation of Southwestern Pennsylvania Human Services).

Colleen grew up in the Mon Valley with her brother and four sisters. She and her husband have lived in the same neighborhood in the city of Monongahela for over 25 years. Working together on this election, as they have on so many projects, is a challenge that they welcome and embrace. Colleen noted that she looks forward to meeting, listening to, and speaking with voters as she campaigns for the office of Prothonotary of Washington County.
