With the support of his family, friends and neighbors, Nick Sherman officially announces his intention to run for the Washington County commissioner. He is seeking the Republican nomination in the May 2015 race.

Nick Sherman

Nick Sherman, executive vice-president of the Domestic Outreach Center, a family-owned organization, has devoted the last nine years of his life to managing this non-profit organization.

Sherman grew up in Finleyville and attended Ringgold School District. He worked for his father's small construction company while attending Clarion University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in political science. A short time after graduation, Nick moved to North Strabane, where he now resides with his family. In his professional career, Sherman has worked for the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives and the United States Congress.

Sherman believes that Washington County government needs to be more transparent. The county has the luxury of both gas royalty money and casino which are both locally distributed. Sherman believes there should be more oversight as to how this money is being distributed and why, stating, "We need greater transparency. This money is being treated like a WAM fund for political gain and pet projects instead of it being given back to the people in the form of lower taxes."

Sherman would like to reform county government, noting, "I would like all county contractors to sign an ethics statement and implement a "no-gift" ban. Politics as usual is over if I'm elected." Sherman continued, "All projects and contracts paid for with county dollars should be bid out in order to ensure competition and the lowest price. We owe it to the taxpayers."

Nick is pro-gun and is member of his local sportsman's club, the National Rifle Association. Nick is pro-life and a member of Good Sheppard Lutheran Church, Ducks Unlimited, Trout Unlimited, the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Ruff Grouse Society, Pheasants Forever, the North American Fishing Club and the Free and Accepted Mason's Lodge #164.

Sherman and his wife, Heather, reside in North Strabane Township and have two small children: their four-year-old daughter Hadley and one-year-old son Maxwell. Both children will be attending the Cannon McMillan School District when they reach school age.
