On July 12, bikers from all over Allegheny County put on their helmets and filled their water bottles for a 64-mile fundraising bike rally for the American Red Cross.

While participants choose their starting points - either West Newton or the South Side Works – they’d each crossed each others’ paths as they’d cycled to the opposing starting point and back. The bikers could go at their own pace and as far as they wanted on the Great Allegheny Passage.
Each participant was to raise a $250 registration fee, which would not only earn them bragging rights, but a t-shirt at the end of the rally. At the end of the day $11,340 was raised for helping to fund donations for the Red Cross and support families in their times of need and emergencies. The bike rally is planning to donate 100% of the proceeds.
Megan Rady and father John Rady, #8 and #9 in the rally, biked to Boston, PA and back home to West Newton. They said it was their first year participating in the rally and they think they will do it again in the future.
