Preservation architect Terry A. Necciai, RA will present a history of glass products made in Charleroi and the role of the glass industry in the evolution of the town at the August meeting of the Charleroi Area Historical Society.
The presentation has been scheduled for this year to honor the centennial of the invention of Pyrex, as well as to coincide with the preparation of the Charleroi Historic Preservation Plan, which Necciai’s firm has underway.
Necciai gathered a lot of his information when he was Main Street manager in Charleroi (1987-1990), as well as 15 years later when he prepared the National Register nomination for the Charleroi Historic District. In the 1980s, he was involved in an effort to lay the groundwork for starting a glass museum in the town.
The meeting is at 7 p.m. on Monday, August 17. It is free and open to the public. Anyone interested in the topic is welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served. The meetings are held at SPHS Riverside Place, in the former Montgomery Ward building (look for directional signs).
