The CDC estimates 1 in 68 American children is on the autism spectrum–a ten-fold increase in prevalence in 40 years. With an increase in prevalence comes an increase in concerns about the safety of people with autism. Autism Speaks Safety & Wandering Prevention initiative offers a comprehensive approach to promoting the safety of all people with autism by providing safety awareness, education and resources to families and first responders. Autism Speaks First Responder Training is designed to increase first responders’ knowledge of autism and provide practical tips and strategies for use in the field.

Members of the community are also invited to join us after the training for the Autism Speaks Safety Fair at Brentwood Volunteer Fire Company!  Caregivers, parents, loved ones, and community members who want to learn more about autism are all invited. FREE Autism Safety Kit for all attendees. Attending this event means that YOU are training our officers to learn more about autism. YOU are helping your child and your community to be more aware of autism by attending. Both groups – families and first responders – benefit from attending! Registration is required, please RSVP: http://events.autismspeaks.org/PASafetyEvent.
