The Monessen City Park Amphitheater Committee sponsored a Fall Festival on September 26, 2015 from noon -4 p.m. Karla Spangler, Amphitheater secretary, coordinated the event, which she says over 300 people responded by RSVP on Facebook.

The Amphitheater Committee: Dillon Shash, vice president; Chelsey Salay, volunteer; Karla Spangler, secretary; Matthew Shorraw, president; and Karen Lewitsky, treasurer.

Vendors, food (RP’s Barbeque), crafters, and informational booths were featured. There were unique items to purchase, many hand-crafted. Two musical acts performed: Pocket Vinyl from CT, and Jessica Kovach from Monessen.

Before the Festival, from 8 a.m.- noon, “Give Back Day” was held in Monessen. Volunteers met at City Park where groups were designated to clean the city parks, roads, pick up trash, and other work needed around Monessen. All over their hometown, residents of all ages could be seen hard at work. The day was a big success, with approximately 50 volunteers who collected over 100 bags of garbage in Monessen.

Chris Paglia, in charge of “Give Back Day,” along with his co-organizers, said, “We would like to give as much back to the community as we can. It’s the first time we’ve done this. We will do better next time. We want to be able to give to the city, instead of taking. That’s the whole idea.”

Paglia concluded, “Our goal is to do one of these every season, maybe a little more every time.”

The next clean-up is in December. Thanks to all who participated! If you are in need of a clean-up or interested in volunteering, you may e-mail Chris Paglia at: chrispaglia@me.com or visit:
