Remember the Monessen Heritage Museum when cleaning out basements, attics, closets, etc. If in doubt, contact us at 724-684-8460 before throwing away possible items that are important to local history. Family photographs, business items, correspondence, ledgers, and genealogies are also wanted.

The “Old Monessen Exhibit” is available for viewing on Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. or by special appointment. The photographs and items showcase early Monessen history from 1897 to 1950.

Last call for membership renewals for the calendar year of 2016. Individual memberships are $15 for an individual, $20 for a family and $50 for a business.

The Greater Monessen Historical Society co-sponsors the Mon Valley Genealogy Forum, along with Monessen Public Library & Cultural Center. The group meets at 5:30 p.m. on the third Monday of each month at the Library. New members are welcome. The meetings are free and cover new research sites and “genealogy” in the news, as well as group discussion on family trees.
